MY LEADERSHIP STYLE

Collaboration | Growth | Standards | Organization

Collaboration

My first focus is to bring the team together and learn to work collaboratively.  Meeting at least once a week to do collaborative design work is a great way to get everyone to communicate openly, learn to critique, and learn to accept changes from the team. Not only does it make everyone's designs better, but it also naturally creates a more consistent asset creation.

Growth

I make it my priority to ensure the growth of each person on my team. Each person has done self-assessments of their UX skills to help identify where they need more experience and where they are strong. We pair more experienced team members with less experienced members to mentor and guide them through the project.

I do regular check-ins with each person to talk about progress, where they need more guidance, and if there are additional resources they need in order to continue their growth.

Standards

In leading my teams, I set up standards in team work and design. Through reviews, collaboration, and internal workshops, we set standards for our deliverables and team work. Internal workshops are lead by each member of the team to take their strength and teach other members. This allows us to knowledge share as well as standardize our process and assets.

One of our largest efforts has been to create a centralized style guide. Having a sharable library allows us to create deliverables that are consistent. It also allows us to have better discussions on standardization about the total product.

Organization

One of the strongest aspects of our teamwork is through it's organization. The setup of our weekly meetings, Sprint Retro & Planning, and Jira boards ensure we're setup for success.

With our Sprint Retro & Planning, we're able to rally as a team, have excellent discussions, and make a solid plan for the upcoming sprint. It also ensures we're in sync with our Business Analysts and development teams.
